Talk Summary

Across the four Gospels, the Son of Man is Jesus’ favourite way to refer to himself. This title refers back to a significant Old Testament figure from Daniel 7, a humble figure who is given divine authority, glory and power by God. But Jesus wants his followers to know that before the glory comes suffering. Jesus does this by taking the Son of Man title and linking it to another significant Old Testament figure – the Suffering Servant from Isaiah 53.

Finally, just as suffering comes before glory for the Son of Man, Jesus wants his disciples to know that suffering comes before glory for those who follow the Son of Man. Those who follow the Son of Man must deny themselves and take up their crosses daily… How will you do that in 2025?
