Daily Readings, Day 18

By Carola Bradford

Read Matthew 11:28-30

When I was overseas, we had a drama we performed at events which was about a person spending time with God. God sits down next to the person as they open their bible, and shortly after – their phone beeps. They look at their phone, send a message or two, all while God waits besides them. They remember God is waiting for them, and they come back to him again. A little later the phone rings and they answer and move away, all while God waves to them saying, “Hello! I’m here!”.

You can see where this is going.

Our efforts to spend time with God will come with so many distractions, but, we need to make an intentional effort to be in our relationship with him. Our time with God helps us find rest, relationship, and restoration in Him, and it should be a priority for us to fuel our hearts with Him the most.

My encouragement to each of us is – where possible – switch off from the notifications and busyness and switch into God. May we all find good rest in Jesus, knowing he pursues and desires each of us to draw close to him.
